About Us

As a mum, I have been carrying my little boy practically since the day he was born.
Having used ring, wrap and pouch slings, I found them all useful, but personally never felt comfortable with the baby in all positions (back, side or front). Some were good for one carry, and another for a different carry, but I couldn't just take one sling and know that we would be happy with all positions, until that is I discovered the Mei Tai, and later the Podeagi. Now my other slings are sitting in their bag waiting to be used, whilst I have one sling that can do them all, more comfortably and securely than I personally found the others, then I have no need to get them out.

It wasn't until my little boy was bigger and I wanted to carry him on my back that I discovered how insecure we felt with the other slings. I mainly used wrap slings, and found that I was constantly checking him in mirrors to see he was safe, and undoing and retying my straps to keep him tight. The Mei Tai feels secure and comfortable, and from the first time I put him into it he has taken to it like a "duck to water", or a horse to hay as he is constantly playing horsey whenever in a back carry! To further fuel my sling addiction, I investigated other Aisan baby carriers, and discovered the Podaegi carrier, although slightly harder to learn than the Mei Tai, I have found it secure, quick to put on and even more comfortable especially for a heavier baby or toddler.

Chrysalis Carriers came about due to the lack of affordable baby carriers. As a stay at home mum paying £50 for another sling seemed to me an extravagance, especially when I wasn't particuarly taken by any of the designs, so I decided to create my own. Having gone through a number of prototypes (with my poor son as the testing guinea pig) we finally came to the current designs that we both felt comfortable with.

I have tried to keep both designs fairly simple so as to keep costs down for both me and the buyer, but I understand that everyone is different and have their preferences and that is why I have also added the custom designs. You can add something to your sling and modify in whichever way you feel comfortable, with minimal costs, between us we can create a sling that is suitable for your own happy baby.

A Chrysalis gives an image of protection and security before the butterfly emerges, and this is something I wanted to convey with our carriers which was where our name came from.

Be warned! The world of baby carriers is addictive! After trying your first carrier, you'll find more designs and decorations that you need to have! :)
